Service Overview

In Kerala, the production of vegetables is low during the monsoon period due to heavy rainfall and unfavorable conditions. Rain shelter comes to the rescue of farmers in such conditions.  Rain shelter is a low-cost structure with a framework made of locally available materials and covered with transparent UV stabilized polythene sheet. The rain shelter helps in better agricultural production as the temperature is higher by two to six degree Celsius. The plants give yield sooner, too. Besides, pest attack is zero.

The rain shelter effectively prevents ultra violet rays, and adjusts heat and humidity. Even if only the top of the shelter is covered, the temperature inside the shelter will rise by two to four degree Celsius. When the sides are also covered using nets to keep away pests, the temperature will increase by six degree Celsius.

How its done

The rain shelter can be prepared using available things such as bamboo. Firstly, make a tent after bending bamboo or GI pipe. Transparent poly-ethylene sheets are used for covering. The sheets should be just 200 microns thick. The shelter should be two meters high in the middle and one meter high on the sides.
